At Learning Re-Engineered, that belief shapes everything I do.
Reading and writing are not just academic subjects. They shape how children make sense of the world, express their thinking, and develop confidence in their own ideas.
Understanding how learning unfolds matters.
When we understand it, we can guide it more intentionally.
Before working online, I spent many years as a homeschool teacher and private school teacher. From the very beginning, I believed reading instruction needed to be built carefully and in sequence.
That belief was influenced by my grandmother, a kindergarten teacher, who emphasized the importance of phonics, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, and comprehension. She believed strong foundations made reading clearer and more meaningful, and I saw that truth reflected in my own teaching.
Those principles continue to guide my work today.
A turning point came when my niece experienced a stroke and began working with a school-appointed tutor.
As I observed her sessions, I noticed the focus was primarily on answers. The lessons moved forward, but there was little space for reasoning, reflection, or rebuilding understanding through thought.
It raised a question I could not ignore:
What changes when instruction prioritizes thinking instead of quick answers?
That question shaped the direction of my training and practice.
What changes when instruction prioritizes thinking instead of quick answers?
How the brain processes language and meaning
How mental imagery supports comprehension
How structured questioning strengthens reasoning
Students understand more deeply when they form mental images as they read
Language becomes clearer when it connects to experience
Thinking grows stronger when students are guided to reason, not just respond
Students learn most deeply when they are supported in discovering understanding for themselves.
Strong foundations begin when:
Sounds and letters connect clearly
Words are remembered and spelled accurately
Mental images form while reading
Sentences are built and organized with purpose
Learning deepens when:
Ideas connect across reading and writing
Students are guided with thoughtful questions
Understanding grows through reflection, not rushing
Skills work together, not in isolation
Confidence grows when:
Students explain their thinking clearly
Reading flows and makes sense
Writing becomes more organized and purposeful
Students learn how to think through their learning independently
When instruction reflects how the brain processes language and meaning, students build confidence in their own thinking.
Behind every session is more than 20 years of experience as a homeschool and private school teacher, along with specialized training in evidence-based reading and writing instruction through Lindamood-Bell.
This background allows me to design instruction that is intentional, responsive, and grounded in how learning actually happens.
Thoughtful instruction begins with understanding your child clearly before suggesting any next steps.
Before any assessment, I invite you to share more about your child in a Learning Snapshot.
This step allows you to share what you’re noticing, what feels easy, what feels unclear, and what you’re hoping for, without labels or assumptions.
It helps me understand your child as a learner before recommending next steps.
